I wrapped the wire with electrical tape and the camera came back to life. I pulled off the bezel and the coating on the wire leading to the camera was very brittle and flaked away exposing a short. After exhausting every software approach in this forum, I ran my hand around the monitor and noticed a lot of heat radiating from the upper left of the laptop screen. I spent hours on this same issue on a Aspire E5-571P and would like to share how I fixed it. If you read a thread on the Acer forum (link at the end), you will read this:
Acer really should do a recall and repair this as it's unacceptable. It seems like a manufacturing fault with a wire shorting. If Acer had not supplied them to MS for signatures and approval to work with win 10, the drivers may not work now.An update. It is possible that support for webcam drivers was removed by Microsoft in recent update. I find that hard to believe, and suspect the drivers are from a previous version of windows and supposedly win 10 drivers. The drivers I find on download sites that are dubious in nature show drivers work for XP all way to win 10. Grumbles at fact half the websites with help on fixing webcams only want to sell you something.Ĭurious what version number of win 10 you are on. i suspect windows is meant to have drivers for webcam. is that your model?
